The musical “Big Fish” showed at the Nebraska Repertory Theatre from April 25th to May 4th 2024. It was the first musical to be shown at the Nebraska Repertory Theatre in over five years and was a deeply collaborative project between the University of Nebraska theater program, music program, and Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. I joined a small team of less than 10 students led by Professor Anna Henson to design projections for the show. Projections were used consistently throughout the show to create and contrast the magical internal world of the character Edward Bloom with the realistic world of his son. I crafted projections for the songs “Time Stops” and “Red, White, and True” and for the recurring motif of birds throughout the show. I utilized Adobe After Effects to composite and animate my scenes. I collaborated closely with my classmates and the creative team, working to update projections on the spot with in-rehearsal feedback.
