    1920s VR Dress Recreation

    2024, 3D Model

Project by Eva Kramer with mentorship of Professor Michael Burton (University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design)

Using the fashion simulation software Clo3D, I recreated a historic 1920s dress from a local philanthropist that is housed at the UNL Historic Textile and Costume Collections. While I was crafting the virtual twin of this dress, I also conducted research on the history of the garment and its wearer. I utilized Unreal Engine and ClassVR to display the replicated garment to the public. I presented my research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Student Research Days in the spring of 2025. This project allowed me to examine historical garment construction and was an experiment in how emerging technologies can allow the public to interact with historic clothing while preserving the garment itself. This project allowed this nearly century-old garment to be seen up close and in motion by a wide variety of viewers without any damage to the original dress.

    Firefly Dress

    2025, Garment

Inspired by the flickering and floating appearance of fireflies, I crafted this dress using upcycled materials. I used the existing darts in a skirt to fit the garment around the bust in an interesting way, and utilized upcycled ruffs to craft a secure back strap. The folds of white fabric and lace at the sides mimic the two wings of a firefly while the lace trim throughout the garment ties it all together and brings in a vintage nightgown feel. I wore this garment on the runway of 2025’s Project Funway by the Fresh Start Foundation in Lincoln, NE and received an Honorable Mention award.
